Organic potassium for Argentine agriculture

K-FLOW 20 is Ecoganic's organic liquid potassium fertilizer: 20% K₂O in fully soluble form, chloride-free and certified under Regulation CE 2018/848. Developed for Argentina's main productive chains — grapevine, soybean, maize, citrus, blueberries — where fruit quality and water efficiency are key price drivers.

The difference between KCl and chloride-free organic potassium

Why does chloride-free potassium matter in Argentina?

Potassium is the macronutrient that regulates photosynthesis, stomatal opening and closing, sugar transport to the fruit, and resistance to water stress. In crops like grapevine, blueberry and citrus, the K⁺ concentration during sizing and maturation directly determines soluble solids content (°Brix), coloration, firmness and commercial value.

Potassium chloride (KCl or muriate of potash) is the most used source in Argentina due to its low cost, but it contributes chloride (Cl⁻) that accumulates in the soil profile. In sensitive crops like grapevine, blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) and citrus, excess chlorides cause phytotoxicity, leaf burn, reduced sugar accumulation and quality problems. K-FLOW 20 eliminates this risk: it provides only K⁺ in organic form, without harmful counter-ions.

Organic production · SENASA

In production systems under SENASA regulations for organic agriculture, the use of KCl is directly prohibited. K-FLOW 20, certified CE 2018/848 and compatible with SENASA protocols, is the technically correct alternative for organic fertilization programs in Argentina.

Key moments for potassium

Potassium is not applied the same way at all stages of the cycle. These are the phenological stages of highest demand and greatest agronomic return:

1

Fruit set

Critical phase for fruit retention. K⁺ improves the source-sink relationship and reduces physiological drop.

2

Fruit sizing

Peak potassium demand. Regulates cell filling, soluble solids accumulation and turgidity.

3

Maturation and veraison

K⁺ controls anthocyanin synthesis in grapevine, color in blueberries and sugar/acid ratio in citrus.

4

Grain filling (cereals)

In soybean (R3-R6) and maize (R2-R4), potassium translocates reserves to the grain and improves test weight.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between K-FLOW 20 and potassium chloride (KCl)?

Potassium chloride contributes Cl⁻ as a counter-ion, which accumulates in the soil and can cause phytotoxicity in sensitive crops such as grapevine, blueberry and citrus. K-FLOW 20 is an organic liquid potassium source that provides exclusively K⁺ in assimilable form, without chlorides or sodium. It is CE 2018/848 certified and suitable for organic production, unlike KCl.

Why is it important that potassium is chloride-free in grapevine and blueberry?

Both grapevine (Vitis vinifera) and blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) are particularly sensitive to chloride. In grapevine, chlorides compete with nitrate in vascular transport, reduce must quality and can generate secondary deficiencies. In blueberry, Cl⁻ accumulation causes marginal leaf scorch, reduces calcium absorption and negatively affects berry coloration and post-harvest life.

When is the most critical moment to apply potassium to soybean?

In soybean, the highest potassium demand occurs during grain filling, between stages R3 (beginning of pod formation) and R6 (full pod). In this period, K⁺ regulates the translocation of assimilates from leaves to grains, proper stomatal closure to maintain photosynthesis under stress and resistance to fungal diseases. A foliar application with K-FLOW 20 at R3 and R5 allows obtaining greater thousand-grain weight without depending on soil status.

Is K-FLOW 20 suitable for certified organic production in Argentina?

Yes. K-FLOW 20 has CE 2018/848 certification (European Organic Production Regulation) and is compatible with organic production protocols supervised by SENASA in Argentina. Producers should verify with their certifier (LETIS, OIA, Argencert or others accredited by SENASA) the current registration of the product in the use plan, but CE 2018/848 certification is internationally recognized and is the basis of SENASA standards for organic inputs.

How is K-FLOW 20 applied in fertigation?

K-FLOW 20 is 100% soluble in cold water and compatible with drip and micro-sprinkler systems. It is incorporated directly into the fertigation tank or irrigation header. The usual dose ranges from 3 to 8 l/ha per application depending on the crop, phenological stage and prior soil analysis. It is compatible with most liquid NPK fertilizers; it is recommended to verify compatibility with calcium-containing products before mixing in the same tank to avoid precipitation.
